CG01 Core caregiving

This course is a blend of teaching methods, self-directed learning, videos, quizzes, interactive discussion, reflection, and assessment. The total learning time is designed to be around 15 hours.

It is vital that caregivers receive high-quality holistic training to support them to feel confident and capable in their role as a caregiver.

This course is designed to teach the essentials in caring for any tamariki on the edge of care or in foster care. The content is also helpful to any caregiver who would like to be better at managing tamariki with complex needs and challenging behaviour.

A comprehensive course over 8 sessions. Online, face-to-face, or blended.

The focus of each session is as follows:

  • All about me plan, assumptions, culture, routines.
  • Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Māori worldview, whānau connections, intro to circle of security
  • Attachment, needs, grief and loss, relearning.
  • Trauma
  • Triggers, self-reflection, empathy
  • Connection with tamariki, behaviour
  • Behaviour continued, setting limits, communication, crises management.
  • Assessment of key competencies & 'all about our whare' presentation.

Course info

  • The cost of this course is $495 per person.
  • The cost includes a copy of The No-Fault Zone game, and a copy of Nonviolent communication by Marshall B. Rosenberg PhD. 
  • The cost also includes some workshop resources (notebook and pen) and light refreshments.
