CG09 Safeguarding and incident reporting

Everyone working in a role that brings them into contact with children and young people needs to know about safeguarding children. This course enables learners to develop awareness of key issues in safeguarding and what to do if they suspect a tamariki or rangatahi is being harmed.

During this course caregivers will learn how to use their tamariki's All About Me Plan to develop a safety plan.

Current legislation, National care standards, and internet safety are explored in this course.

Learning aims:
  • Be aware of the roles and responsibilities for safeguarding tamariki and rangatahi .
  • To be able to recognise the potential signs and indicators of abuse.
  • Understand the Oranga Tamariki's reporting and incident process.
  • Be able to complete an incident report.
  • Your obligations under the Children's Act 2014.
  • Consider key areas of safeguarding practice including information sharing; consent and confidentiality.
  • To have explored the impact of child abuse and neglect upon children and young people.
  • Have an understanding of Oranga Tamariki's investigation process.
